Fr. Jesu Memorial Children Parliament Ministers Kalai Mela

Fr. Jesu Memorial Children Parliament Ministers Kalai Mela was held on 25th February 2018 at Rosary School, Santhome. This year, only the Children Parliament Ministers were called for this event. There were 245 Children from 23 children Parliament groups, 23 parent leaders and some past pupils of Nesakkaram besides all the part time and full time staff members of Nesakkaram who solemnized the Kalai Mela with their presence. The Chief Guest of this Mela was our Minister Provincial Br. Praveen Henry D’Souza OFM. The event began at 9 am with registration. Once the children registered themselves, they were given badges, T Shirts, and breakfast. The games for the children started at 10 am. It was indeed a sight to watch the children in Nesakkaram T Shirts, playing together to enjoy more than winning prizes. The games were organized by MSW field work trainees. The cultural program started at 11 am. The cultural event consisted of folk dances, Villipattu, Therukoothu (Street Theater), Karagattam, etc. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to portray their talents. The cultural event was a great display of agility and energy. During this event Br. Praveen spoke to the children in Tamil. The children responded with thunderous applause in appreciation. Br. John Sekar appreciated the children for their lively performances. All the invitees appreciated the efforts of Nesakkaram for its work among the less privileged children of God. These children from the slums not only carried a bag of gifts home, but much delight and Franciscan happiness as well. – Br Joseph Raj
