OFM Franciscans India welcome Br Michael Anthony Perry our Minister General and Br Lino Greg Our Definitor General who arrived this morning at Our Lady of Good Counsel Friary, Sion, Mumbai. We wish our brothers a fruitful visit in India.
Fr. Michael Anthony Perry
On 21st May 2015 the General Chapter elected Fr. Michael Anthony Perry as the 120th successor of St. Francis. He was born on 7th June 1954 at Indianapolis (Indiana, United States of America), in the diocese of Indianapolis, son of James Richard Perry and Agnes J. Coffey, both of Irish origin. In 1976 he began his Postulancy in the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the USA (St. Louis). On 25th June 1977, he donned the Franciscan habit, beginning his novitiate, at the end of which he made his Temporary Profession on the Feast Day of St. Clare, 11th August 1978. After making his Solemn Profession on 10th October 1981, he was ordained as a priest on 2nd June 1984. His academic curriculum is comprised of two Bachelor of Arts’ degrees in History and Philosophy, a Master of Divinity in Priestly Formation, a Masters in Missiology and a Doctorate in Religious Anthropology, obtained from Birmingham University in the United Kingdom. His intense interest for the missions ad gentes brought him to live as a missionary for about ten years in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). He served in the field of religious and theological formation and in the sector of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation. Returning from Africa to the United States of America he collaborated with the NGO, Franciscans International, with Catholic Relief Services and with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Elected Provincial Minister of the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (St. Louis, USA), he was called to serve the Order of Friars Minor as Vicar General, at the General Chapter of 2009 .
Br. Lino Gregorio Redoblado, OFM
Fr. Greg; as known to many, grew up in Almeria, Biliran. He was born on May 25, 1966 to the late Dr. Redoblado and Inday Velasquez. He graduated valedictorian in the year 1982 in Pope John XXIII Minor Seminary in Cebu city, and joined the Franciscans and pursued his Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Religion, minors in Philosophy and Sociology, at the Our Lady of the Angels Seminary (OLAS), Novaliches, Quezon City. He made his first profession on May 1988 and took his final vows on May 1992. He finished his Theology at the Inter- Congregational Theological Center in Quezon City and was ordained on October 22, 1994. Fr. Greg served as the Secretary of the Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP) from 1994-1998. He was also Co-Secretary of the Commission on Mutual Relations between Bishops and Religious of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Before his studies in Rome, he was Secretary of the OFM Province of San Pedro Bautista from 1995-1998. He gained his Licentiate in Philosophy in 2001 at Pontifico Ateneo Antonianum. In 2005, he finished his Doctorate in Philosophy Magna Cum Laude at the Pontifical University Antonianum. He served as Provincial Definitor and Secretary for Formation and Studies; Guardian, school Director and Dean of the College of our Lady of the Angels Seminary. (santuariodesanantonio). He was also the guardian of the Franciscan community in the Sanctuary de San Antonio in Forbes Park. In 2013 he had been elected as the new provincial minister of the congregation.
