THE SPIRIT OF PRAYER
2nd Day –26th September
Hymn
All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam!
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Allelu-u-ia!
Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in heav'n along,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice!
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
And all ye men of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on Him cast your care!
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Psalmody
Ant. 1 Let the brothers praise the Father, and the Son and Holy Spirit in the company of all his creatures. (GGCC 20, # 1)
Psalm 67
O God, be gracious and bless us
And let your face shed its light upon us.
So will your ways be known upon earth
And all nations learn your saving help.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
Let all the peoples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and exult
For you rule the world with justice.
With fairness you rule the peoples
You guide the nations on earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
Let all the peoples praise you.
The earth has yielded its fruit
For God, our God, has blessed us.
May God still give us his blessing
Till the ends of the earth revere him.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
Let all the peoples praise you.
Ant. 1 Let the brothers praise the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit in the company of all his creatures. (GGCC 20, # 1)
Ant. 2 Let the Brothers, each day, glorify and celebrate each day with renewed joy the love the Father has for us and for the world. (GGCC 20, # 2)
Psalm 5(Office of Passion)
I cried to the Lord with my voice
With my voice I made supplication to the Lord.
I pour out my prayer in His sight
And I speak of my trouble before Him.
When my spirit failed me
You knew my ways.
On the path on which I walked
The proud have hidden a trap for me.
I looked to my right and I saw
And there was no one who knew me.
I have no means of escape
And there is no one who cares for my life.
Because of You I have sustained abuse
While confusion covers my face.
I have been made an outcast to my brothers
And a stranger to the children of my mother.
Holy Father, zeal for your house has consumed me
And the abuses of those who have attacked You
Have fallen upon me.
And against me they have rejoiced and have united together
And many scourges were heaped upon me
And I knew not why.
More numerous than the hairs of my head
Are those who hate me without cause.
Those who persecute me unjustly,
My enemies, have been strengthened
Must I then restore what I did not steal?
The wicked witnesses who rise up
Have interrogated me about things of which I am ignorant.
They repaid me evil for good and they harassed me
Because I pursued good.
You are my most Holy Father
My king and my God.
Come to my help,
Lord, God of my salvation.
Ant. 2 Let the Brothers, each day, glorify and celebrate each day with renewed joy the love the Father has for us and for the world. (GGCC 20, # 2)
Ant. 3 All the Brothers, concerned for the spirit of prayer and devotion, should spend time every day in mental prayer, either by themselves or in common. (GGCC 20, # 2)
Psalm 130
Response: As the watchman waits for dawn, I long for you my Lord. (Sing after each verse)
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord
Lord, hear my voice
O let your ears be attentive
To the voice of my pleading
If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt,
Lord, who would survive?
But with you is found forgiveness
For this we revere you.
My soul is waiting for the Lord,
I count on his word.
My soul is longing for the Lord
More than watchman for daybreak.
Let the watchman count on daybreak
And Israel on the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy
And fullness of redemption,
Israel indeed he will redeem
From all its iniquity.
Ant. 3 All the Brothers, concerned for the spirit of prayer and devotion, should spend time every day in mental prayer, either by themselves or in common. (GGCC 20, # 2)
Scripture Reading (Phil 4: 4-7)
Rejoice in the Lord always. I say it again: rejoice and may everyone experience your gentle and understanding heart. The Lord is near: do not be anxious about anything. In everything resort to prayer and supplication together with thanksgiving and bring your requests before God. Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Responsory
V/- From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the name of the Lord be praised.
R/- From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the name of the Lord be praised.
V/- His splendour reaches far beyond the heavens,
R/- May the name of the Lord be praised.
V/- Glory to the Father...
R/- From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the name of the Lord be praised.
Magnificart Ant. "St. Francis loved with an unspeakable affection the Mother of the Lord Jesus Christ, forasmuch as that She had made the Lord of glory our Brother, and that through Her we have obtained mercy." (LM IX,3)
Intercessions
Let us pray for the Franciscans all over the world that they may all imbibe the spirit of St. Francis especially his life of prayer and that they may grow deeper in their spiritual life.
Res: Lord hear our prayer.
We pray for those people who are sick and lonely that may feel and experience the comfort of God’s healing and merciful love and be strengthened in their lives.
We pray for those people who find no time to pray – may God help them in their works, endeavours, and activities and inspire them to remember His loving presence.
We pray for those people who have asked us for our prayers and who are in need - may God grant them their hearts desire and bestow upon them the peace and happiness they need.
We pray for our community gathered here that we may all be inspired by the prayer life of our Seraphic Father Francis – and continue to thank and praise God for his abundant blessings.
Our Father...
Concluding Prayer (L Ord 50 – 52)
Almighty, eternal, just, and merciful God, grant us in our misery the grace to do for You alone, what we know You want us to do, and always to desire what pleases You. Thus, inwardly cleansed, interiorly enlightened, and inflamed by the fire of the Holy Spirit, may we be able to follow in the footprints of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. And by Your grace alone, may we make our way to You, Most High, Who live and rule in perfect Trinity and simple Unity, and are glorified; God all-powerful forever and ever. Amen.
Hymn
Blessed Francis, Holy Father,
Now our hearts to thee we raise,
As we gather round thine altar,
Pouring forth our hymn of praise.
Bless they children, holy Francis,
Who thy mighty help implore
For in heaven thou remainest
Still the father of the poor.
By thy love so deep and burning
For thy Saviour crucified;
By thy tokens which he gave thee,
On thy hands, and feet, and side.
Bless thy children holy Francis
With those wounded hands of thine
From thy glorious throne in heaven
Where resplendently they shine.
