Covid Relief Work in St. Anthony’s Friary, Bengaluru

St. Anthony’s Bread Centre - has been running for the last 13 years, distributing midday meal from Monday to Saturday, to anyone who came hungry. During the Lock down friars are using this bread centre as a means to distribute food packets to hungry people. Every day, St. Anthony’s Bread Centre arranges for food packet distribution to around 650-700 people. The food distribution began on 7th April 2020. Mostly people who are on the roads, people from nearby slums, people who are admitted in nearby hospitals, nurses who are working in the nearby hospital, police personnel, persons who are keeping the city clean, some food distribution vendors, etc are coming to collect food packets in the afternoon, since all the hotels and road side canteens are shut down. The distribution is organized by Br. Tommy Palackal with the help of the friars, volunteers from St. Anthony’s Friary Parish and the Red Cross society.

St. Anthony’s Friary Parish - has taken the initiative to reach out to the needy through distribution of necessary provisions to people from parish and to people of all faiths in and around the parish. It is done with the help of contribution from the Parish and local contribution from the parishioners. Parish has helped till now around 700 families with the necessary provisions. Still, it continues to carry out the relief work through the distribution of ration for the needy people
