INVESTITURE OF ALTAR SERVERS, BANGALORE

We all reminiscence our school days where we would see our peers taking the leadership roles in the school and the whole aura around having a badge on your chest ignited a sense of pride and achievement. A similar feeling of that sort was experienced by the parishioners of St. Anthony's Friary Church, Bangalore, who had their investiture ceremony of the altar servers known as the Knights of the Altar. 

On the 27th, November, 2022, on the first Sunday of Advent, for the first time in its history the parish had its Investiture Ceremony for the altar servers with great pomp and show. The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Fr. Xavier Durairaj, Minister Provincial. The Celebration began with a solemn procession with the altar servers dawned in their red, violet and gold albs. 

The Investiture Rite began by br. Anthony J Archer, the Co-ordinator of the Knights of the altar, who summoned the 35 altar servers one by one and introduced them to the celebrant and the faithful. The candidates were examined by the celebrant. 

After the examination the entire faithful prayed for these young boys and girls as they knelt before the altar before they could make their commitment to serve at the altar. They were later administered their commitment by the coordinator. At the end of the ceremony, with a joyous smile on their faces, they faced the congregation which burst out in huge applause for their courage and commitment. 

The greatest part is that the entire animation of the liturgy was done by the altar servers: the choir, readings, prayer of the faithful and the service at the altar. The Altar Servers Award was presented to 8 servers for excelling in exams and dedicated service. Fr. Amaldass B the parish priest thanked the parents and the altar servers for their sacrifice and service and encouraged them to continue their dedication in love and service as their motto stands for. In the end, the servers were given their commissioning and appreciation certificates from the parish. we could see the awe and appreciation on the faces of the parishioners and a proud feeling for the parents of these 35 altar servers. The entire Parish extended their whole hearted congratulations to all the knights and wished them all for their future endeavors as Knights of the Altar.
