Blessing of St_ Damiano Cross at La Verna, Palamaner

Revitalizing La Verana and Celebrating St. Louis’ Feast in Palamaner, India

In Palamaner, India, within the St. Louis Friary, lies La Verna, a sacred space designed by the late Br. Christopher Coelho. This site, once home to an exquisite statue of St. Francis, faced deterioration over time, with the statue being stolen and the stone benches showing wear. Despite this, La Verna remained a place of prayer, frequented by Aspirants and Novices. Recognizing the need for restoration, Friar Charles Bernard, the Novice Master, led the repair and renovation efforts, supported by the Fraternity. The St. Damiano Cross, brought from St. Sebastian Church, Madhavaram, was displayed prominently at La Verna.

On August 15th, 2024, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the St. Damiano Cross was blessed during a solemn Holy Eucharist celebrated at La Verna. Guardian Friar Sleeva led the blessing in the presence of the community, Aspirants, and Novices. Today, La Verna offers an inviting and spiritually enriching atmosphere, with expanded space for gatherings, Holy Mass, and spiritual sessions.

The Feast of St. Louis IX was celebrated on August 25th, 2024, by the Palamaner Fraternity, with Aspirants and Novices participating in a day filled with devotion, sports, and cultural events. The day began with a prayer service that highlighted St. Louis IX’s love for Christ, charity, humility, and devotion to God.

A solemn Holy Mass was presided over by Br. Xaiver Durairaj, Minister Provincial, followed by spirited sports activities that showcased the energy and enthusiasm of the brothers. Meals were shared together, fostering a sense of community. The day concluded with a well-organized Cultural Programme, featuring captivating dances and performances by Aspirants and Novices, creating a memorable and visually pleasing celebration.
