2,000 Holy Relics Exhibition at St. Sebastian’s Church, Madhavaram
Chennai, September 2026: St. Sebastian’s Church, Madhavaram, Chennai, is hosting a special Holy Relics Exhibition featuring nearly 2,000 sacred relics from 25 to 28 September 2026, as part of the commemoration of the 800th Anniversary of the Heavenly Birth (Transitus) of St. Francis of Assisi (1226–2026).
The exhibition offers the faithful a unique opportunity to encounter the rich spiritual heritage of the Catholic Church through the relics of Apostles, Martyrs, Missionaries, Mystics and Saints. It invites visitors to learn about the lives of the saints, seek their intercession and renew their own commitment to Christian faith and holiness.
The four-day celebration includes Holy Masses in Tamil and English, Eucharistic celebrations, opportunities for Sacramental Confession, prayer and veneration of the holy relics. The faithful are also invited to fulfil the conditions prescribed by the Church for the Plenary Indulgence.
The event is being organised under the leadership of Br. Arun James, OFM, Parish Priest of Madhavaram, together with the parish team and the friars of the Franciscan community, with the ardent faith, generous cooperation and enthusiastic support of the parishioners of St. Sebastian’s Church.
The exhibition also holds special significance for the Franciscan Family as the Church commemorates 800 years since the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi. His life of Gospel simplicity, prayer, fraternity, love for the poor and care for creation continues to inspire people across the world.
