Nesakkaram–SEEDS Brings 300 Children Together for Kalai Mela 2026
11 Oct 2026

Celebrating Creativity, Talent and the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi’s Passing

Chennai, 11 October 2026: Around 300 children from 13 evening tuition centres across Chennai gathered at Holy Angels’ Matriculation Higher Secondary School, T. Nagar, for Children’s Parliament Kalai Mela 2026, organised by Nesakkaram–SEEDS, OFM Franciscans India. Held in honour of the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis of Assisi, the festival offered children a platform to showcase their talents and celebrate the joy of artistic expression.

The excitement began with the children’s arrival in colourful attire, proudly wearing name badges representing their respective centres. Accompanied by teachers and volunteers, some travelled for nearly an hour and a half by local train and bus before reaching the venue. Their enthusiasm reflected the anticipation of a day filled with performances, friendship and fun.

The programme commenced at 10.30 a.m. with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries. The stage soon came alive with a vibrant array of performances, including singing, folk dance, Silambattam, Parai Isai, drama and speeches. The children displayed remarkable enthusiasm and confidence, making the Kalai Mela a celebration of their creativity and potential.

The chief guests appreciated the children’s performances and shared how watching them brought back fond memories of their own childhood. Their encouraging words affirmed the importance of providing children with opportunities to discover their abilities and express themselves confidently.

The generosity of well-wishers added warmth to the occasion. These contributions helped make the gathering a memorable experience for all. Each participant also received a water bottle as a memento of the day.

Through its 13 evening tuition centres, Nesakkaram–SEEDS supports children’s education and personal development. The Kalai Mela reflected this commitment by bringing children from different centres together, strengthening friendships and giving them an opportunity to be recognised and appreciated.

As the children returned home with happy hearts and cherished memories, the Kalai Mela stood as a testament to what collective goodwill and encouragement can accomplish.

When children are given an opportunity to shine, they discover not only their talents but also the confidence to dream of a brighter future.
