Transitus of the Heart: Death of Self and Life in Christ: Solemn Profession
In the context of the 800th Year of the Passing of St. Francis of Assisi (1226–2026), the Province of St. Thomas the Apostle, OFM Franciscans, India, joyfully celebrated the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua along with the Perpetual Profession of three brothers: Br. Kishor Joseph, OFM, Br. Gins Francis, OFM, and Br. Maria Nithin, OFM, on 13 June 2026 at St. Antony’s Friary Church, Koramangala, Bengaluru.
The Eucharistic celebration was a profound moment of grace and thanksgiving as the three brothers made their solemn profession to the Order of Friars Minor, embracing the evangelical life in the footsteps of St. Francis. Their profession was deeply marked by the theme “Transitus of the Heart: Death of Self and Life in Christ,” highlighting the inner journey of self-emptying, surrender, and rebirth in Christ—a central dimension of Franciscan consecration.
They made their profession in the hands of Br. Xavier Durairaj, Minister Provincial who received their vows as they proclaimed the rule of St. Francis of Assisi, “…To observe the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience without anything of our own, and in chastity. Brother Francis promises obedience…”. Brs. Saji Mathew, Vice Provincial, Alex Martis, Provincial Definitor & Guardian of St. Anthony’s Friary were present along with Brothers from different fraternities across the Province.
The celebration fittingly coincided with the feast of Anthony of Padua, one of the most beloved saints of the Franciscan Order, whose life of humility, preaching, and charity continues to inspire friars and faithful alike. The occasion thus became a double celebration: honoring the saint and witnessing the joyful “yes” of the brothers to lifelong discipleship.
The liturgy was attended by friars, family members, religious, benefactors, and numerous faithful who gathered to pray for the newly professed brothers. The solemnity of the profession, enriched by the Franciscan spirit of fraternity and joy, reminded all present of the enduring beauty of consecrated life and the radical call to follow Christ in poverty, chastity, and obedience.
The Province rejoices with Br. Kishor Joseph, Br. Gins Francis, and Br. Maria Nithin, and thanks God for the gift of their vocation. Their perpetual profession stands as a sign of hope and commitment for the Church and the Franciscan family, especially during this centenary year of remembering the Paschal passing of St. Francis. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the gathering continued with a fellowship meal, offering an opportunity for fraternity, gratitude, and shared joy.
May the Lord continue to bless these brothers with perseverance, joy, and fidelity as they journey in the footsteps of Christ and St. Francis.
